  • “Getting to know the magic-mystic Valley of Chilean Pisco (Grape liquor), and the Birthplace of the poet Gabriela Mistral, where the sun shines over 300 days a year and clean air comes down from the Andes, making this beautiful valley a popular attraction for its climate and clear skies”.
    Leaving from La Serena we will go into the Elqui Valley through the international route of Gabriela Mistral, seeing different landscapes, villages and crops. Soon will appear the first papayas, custard apples and citrus from the Elquina semiarid basin and irrigation canals since Inca times, using the waters of the river. We will know the Cochinilla Cultivation in front of the village El Molle, and then we will get to the Puclaro dam, where we visit an Aeolian harp, its market of local handcrafts and walk in its curtain where we will appreciate a beautiful panoramic view of the Elqui Valley. We also visit “Olivier”, a shop where there are products for sale derived from papaya fruit. Continuing along the path into the valley, we will visit a “PISCO” Winery where we can see the elaboration process of this traditional and praised product of the Elqui Valley. We will walk around the center of Vicuña, capital of the Elqui Valley and birthplace of the Nobel Prize winner, Gabriela Mistral. Finally, we will go to the main inland towns of the Valley, like Paihuano, Monte Grande and Pisco Elqui.

  • Mamalluca Observatory. “Gaze at the stars, constellations, the Southern Cross, galaxies and planets, in the clearest skies of the world.”
    It is located 9 km from the city of Vicuña, at an approximate altitude of 1,200 mts. on sea level. The tour last approximately 2 hours in the Observatory, which includes, as a first step, a basic talking introductory to the astronomical theme. Which it is explained through a Software called Starry Night, which simulates the observation of the sky, provides information about the universe, planets, stars, etc.
    After the explanation, we will go outside to the deck, where you can see at simple view the constellations, the Southern Cross, etc. In the second stage, you can use manual telescopes of 37 and 25 cm. in diameter. In the last stage of the tour, you enter to the main dome, where you can use an electronic telescope of 40 cm. in diameter, showing beautiful sky objects such as stars, planets, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, etc. with a great clarity.

  • El Tololo Observatory. Cerro Tololo Astronomical Observatory is an invesis an investigation center located 2200 meters above sea level. It has seven high technology optical telescopies. It´s operated by the Asociation of Universities for the Research in Astronomy Incorporation (AURA), in asociation with the National Optical Astronomy Observatories (NOAO), University of Chile and the National Science Fundation.

  • 111 km south of La Serena there is “Fray Jorge” National Park, 9,956 hectares of protected areas, where forest sector is situated at 660 masl ( on the high hill called Talinay. The forest is hydrophilic Relict, Valdiviano type that is maintained by the camanchaca action. It has flora species such as cinnamon, olivillos, ferns, etc.
    Along the way to the forest can be seen in certain occasions: foxes, chilla mice, brush-tailed mice, guanacos and a lot of birds typical of the northern Chilean area. We stay in the Park approximately 1,5 hour, which covers 1 mile trekking inside the forest. If the weather is clear in the forest, we can see the Pacific Ocean and the river Limarí.

  • Damas Island, Choros Island, Chañaral Island.120 km north of the city of La Serena, is the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve conformed by Chañaral, Choros and Damas Island. We’ll embark on an adventure out to sea in search of the Humboldt Current, where you will be able to spot in Isla Choros, different types of fauna and bird fauna of the coastal area of the north of Chile, like sea lions, sea otters, “yuncos” ducks, especially pelicans and Humboldt penguins. One of the highlights of the place is watching Bottlenose dolphins. The dolphin chose the reserve instead, making it their habitat and shelter, giving beautiful performances around the boat when they can be seen. This show does not always happen, especially when food is scarce and the sea currents are very unstable for the dolphin, that’s why we cannot guarantee the sightseeing during the Trip. Then, we disembark for an hour in Damas Island, characterized for its white sand beaches, and clear and turquoise waters. Finally we return to the mainland to enjoy a delicious seafood lunch (there are other food options).

    -ARQUEOLÓGIC MONUMENT – VALLE DEL ENCANTO
    Going to the beautiful Limarí valley, known for its delicious cheeses and fertile valley which encourages the cultivation of vines, we find vineyards and a lot of local products, due to the advantage of possessing 3 dams that supply optimally in periods of low or no rainfall at all. We pass by Ovalle city, where we visit the archaeological museum Limarí and then we continue towards the Enchantment Valley, distant 20 km from this city. The importance of this Archaeological Monument is that there are archaeological remains of groups of hunter – gatherers dating from about 2000 BC, while the most important rock engravings are attributable to El Molle Cultural Complex, developed between 300 BC to 700 A.C. At the site there are about 30 petroglyphs (rock engravings) and a smaller number of pictographs (rock paintings), and original rock formations. During the tour, we visit 3 archeological spots, with duration of approximately 2 hours walking, accompanied by a specialized guide.

From San Pedro de Atacama

  • We start our excursion very early in order to reach the altitude of the Cordillera de los Andes (Andean Mountain Chain) surrounded by huge mountains along with a dawn that allows observing high steam fumaroles and hot-mud craters coming from the earth core and created by underground rivers of hot water which is produced by the volcano Tatio distant from the place.
    Afterwards, we will be involved in one of the greatest and most spectacular phenomenon offered by nature; a scene full of colors and especially beautiful contrast produced by the large quantity of steam contained in the geyser.
    The Geysers El Tatio is a geothermic field located in the Cordillera de los Andes (Andean Mountain Range), The fumaroles of this geyser, one of the most elevated in the world (4.300 m ASL), are produced by the high temperatures of its watery craters, offering a unique spectacle in the Chilean desert.
    We’ll return to San Pedro de Atacama going through Machuca village, located at 4,000 m.a.s.l. where you’ll taste typical food, like empanadas and sopaipillas, and wild and tamed animals watching like vicuñas, lamas, ducks and flamingoes in a wetland beside the village.

  • The Moon Valley is an interesting area with stone and sand formations. It has been declared Nature Sanctuary forming part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. It is located inside the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Cordillera). 16 kms away of San Pedro de Atacama.
    We will start our excursion visiting the huge geological formations located in one of the driest areas in the planet. It is an area of great beauty looking like the landscape of the moon due to its formations of the stone, petrified salt and sand formations that have been shaped by means of inundations and the wind during millennia.
    We will finally visit the wonderful salt caverns, accompanied by the imposing volcano Licancabur, so that we are more amazed by the wonderful magic of the desert, especially by the valley where we will have the chance to enjoy the most spectacular sunset that our eyes will not be ever able to forget.
    There is no life or humidity in this valley; therefore it turns to be the most inhospitable place in the world.

  • From San Pedro de Atacama we will visit Toconao, picturesque town built with volcanic stone called Liparita which has a bell tower dating from 1750.
    We will visit a beautiful valley nestled in the middle of the gorge of Jere. Unique and special place of beauty, especially in the summer months.
    We will stop at the Point Tropic of Capricorn in a cross form from which you can see the old Camino del Inca and the Andes Mountain Range.
    We will ascent from 2400m so that we reach a maximum altitude of 4200 meters in the Andes Mountains.
    We will see a lot of animals such as Vicuñas, Alpaca, Red fox, Rhea (American ostrich), Flamingos, Vizcachas (South American rodents) and a variety of ducks. Once we reached our goal, we will observe the altiplanic lagoon Miscanti, whose blue water reflects the white snow that covers the top of the mountain, and Meñiques lagoon located on the slopes of the beautiful Meñiques and Miscanti volcanoes at an altitude of 4100 msnm and 4350 msnm, respectively.
    These lakes are part of one of the seven sectors including the National Reserve Los Flamencos, and it is located 18 km south of Socaire. The maximum height in this area is 5910 m.
    The landscape is characterized by volcanoes, and the mountains, especially the hills Meñiques and Miscanti.
    Upon our return back, we will visit Socaire, typical town with ancient terrace systems and unique architecture. Afterward we will visit the Chaxa Lagoon situated in the middle of the Great Atacama Salt Lake where we will learn the origin of the Salt Lake and we will observe Pariñas and Flamingos among other type of birds.

  • Pick up from Arica Hotel or Cruise Terminal. Catedral de San Marcos, designed by Alexandre Gustav Eiffel, on the Plaza Colón. Originally intended for the seaside resort of Ancón, the church was instead used to replace an original cathedral destroyed in the 1888 earthquake.     The Casa de Cultura, once the Customs House, was prefabricated to an Eiffel design and erected on site prior to the War of the Pacific and is one of the few existing structures from that time.
    El Morro de Arica overlooking the city offers great panoramic views and was the site of a decisive battle in the War of the Pacific. The Museo Histórico y de Armas here devoted mostly to the Chilean army’s bayonet charge to dislodge the Peruvian garrison stationed on El Morro. This view, taken from El Moro, is of the coastline and port.
    Handicraft village (pueblo artesanal).
    The Pukará de Copaquilla is a 12th century fortress built to protect the agricultural settlement. The size of the abandoned terraces gives us a hint of the size of the population they fed.
    Putre was a 16th century Spanish settlement, a reduccíon, built to control the native population. The restored adobe church and other colonial buildings remain from that time
